Brigitte’s German Poetry Club – Learn German through Poetry!

I do have a passion for poetry next to my love for teaching German. After tutoring all rules of German Grammar, handling numbers and administrative duties professionally in my day jobs, I want to bring some creativity into our lives.

But why starting a blog about Poetry – even a bilingual one? Did I lose all respect from this sacred form of literature? Isn’t it old fashioned altogether?

Poems are practical in our fast paced world because they are short. They fit in our busy schedules like these little one minute mindful meditations which are in right now.

This blog is for everybody who loves poetry (POESIE) and speaks, learns, or practices German (in an intermediate level). Although, it is neither a German nor a Poetry Class, you will improve your German skills while enjoying new ways of using this language.

We are not living in a perfect world, but every day has its special moments worthy to be kept in a Snip Shot manner; I want to capture those in some lines. Of course, we don’t have the genius of a Goethe, Lord Byron or Hemingway, but this should not stop us in our own creativity. Also, all language teaching and learning can become too restrictive, if its only purpose is communication. Let’s have some fun and be creative with the tools we have on hand! As a side effect, you will broaden your vocabulary, and improve your language skills.

Each publication presents a German and an English version – but no word to word translations. It is important to get the idea of a little text rather than translating literally.

By the way: I have many years of experience in tutoring German, but decided not to publish any links or have you sign up for classes. If you are interested in developing your German skills, have translation questions to one of the poems you may contact me via email. The main idea of this Website is to have fun and to expand your language skills through poetry.

Needless to say: this all works the other way – German Speaking English Learners may profit as well!
