die linke Seite etwas größer als die rechte

arbeitet es Tag für Tag, Stunde um Stunde

Sekunde auf die Sekunde, ohne Unterlass

hält uns am Leben, bis zum letzten Schlag.

Und dazu muss es noch viel mehr leisten,

soll unsre Gefühle und Gedanken beherbergen,

ist entweder warm oder kalt, weit oder eng

Und ab und zu wird es sogar gebrochen

-was es oh Wunder, doch immer überlebt-.

Ach du armes Herz, ließe man dich nur

in Ruhe schlagen und deinen Dienst verrichten,

und uns am Leben halten,

statt in Millionen Handy Texten als Symbol

unsres Selbsts verschickt zu werden

You are an organ, similar to a triangle

the left side a bit larger than the right

working day after day, hour after hour

second per second, unceasingly,

keeping us alive until its last heartbeat.

Yet, it has to fulfill so much more,

giving home for our thoughts and feelings,

told to be warm or cold, wide or narrow,

strong or week, and you are broken at times

– which you survive miraculously-

Dear heart, if you would only be left

doing your job, to keep us alive,

instead, you are posted in millions of text messages

per handy as a symbol of ourselves

at times the English language uses “mind” instead of heart – which is more fair.

“narrow minded” when the Germans would say “eng stirnig”

nevertheless, the poor hard working heart has been abused since ever….
